Afghan Districts

The U.S. war in Afghanistan is 17 years old today (October 7, 2018). Official pronouncement about  “progress” and “turning the corner” are inevitable and, at this point, incredible. Veteran correspondent Mark Thompson of the Project on Government Oversight, takes a more realistic approach in a new report,  The Afghan War…By the Numbers.

My favorite stat concerns the 2018 trend lines on control of the country’s population centers. This is after 17 years of combat operations, the expenditure of $1 trillion, and the deaths of 2,317 U.S. troops.
